Abstract

We present a system for dispersing colloids on-chip via ultrasound. Superparamagnetic beads used in
Enzyme-Linked-Immunosorbent-Assays (ELISAs) can be efficiently dispersed in the on-chip reaction chamber by this method. By keeping the ultrasonic transducer off-chip and focusing the ultrasound through a horn towards the reaction chamber, a low-cost disposable chip design can be used instead of highly complicated and expensive integrated systems. This is advantageous especially in biological and medical applications where single-use devices are needed to prevent cross contamination between samples.
