Abstract

A portable ultrasound imaging system combining a custom CMUT array, fabricated via a novel SOI-based MEMS process under patent review, with a real-time FPGA delay-and-sum beamformer is presented. The 64-channel array is scanned in eight sequential groups of 8 via analog multiplexing, with on-chip receive beamforming at 100 MHz yielding ~33 ms per focal depth within a 7.9 W total system power budget. Phantom experiments at 1 and 10 MHz validate point-target resolution and tissue-mimicking contrast, confirming feasibility for handheld point-of-care ultrasound.
