Abstract

In aerospace and related industries there is a request for acoustic impedance measurements under high sound pressure levels. Standard measurement techniques do not satisfy testing requirements or are sometime not applicable. In this paper a newly developed measurement system is introduced which can be used to measure materials properties under high sound pressure levels. The acoustic impedance can be measured in situ in a wide frequency range, from 100 Hz up to 8 kHz. From this test the material absorption and reflection can be calculated. The method imposes only few restrictions on the specimen in terms of shape or mounting conditions. The system has been successfully tested on a highly reactive aircraft engine linear sample; the results are presented in this paper.
