Abstract

Several research groups have reported optical fiber hydrogen sensors with thinner film possess faster response but smaller signal value. In order to acquire a satisfying performance, a novel reflection type optical fiber hydrogen gas sensor with 5nm palladium and yttrium thin film was fabricated. Experimental studies indicated that the sensors was sensitive to the hydrogen, the variation of output of sensors was linearly increased with increasing natural logarithms of hydrogen concentration (ln(H2)), and the shortest response time and recovery response time of hydrogen concentration of 4% appeared 6 seconds and 7 seconds respectively. The hydrogen sensors with Pd0.92Y0.08 alloy ultrathin film show wide application prospect in the hydrogen detection field.
