Abstract

A vibrating cantilever sensor consisting of a thin glass plate covered by piezoelectric PVDF foils developed for density measurements in gases turned out to be applicable for liquids as well and was used for liquid level sensing and viscosity measurements of oils. The resonance frequency and the Qvalue of the resonator turned out to be useful parameters for these purposes. The simple construction with flexible PVDF foils for excitation and deflection detection allows the choice of various shapes of the resonator body.
