Abstract
We demonstrated improved VOC sensing using composites of p-type CuO and n-type Fe 2 O 3 metal oxide semiconductors. The composites were prepared using both chemical mixing (sol–gel method) and physical mixing. Both composites showed higher sensor signals and faster response and recovery speeds compared to the pure phase, while the physically mixed sample maintained the baseline resistance and sensitivity of Fe 2 O 3 . Operando DRIFTS measurements confirmed consistent surface chemistry, indicating that the improvements originate from the electronic coupling effect between CuO and Fe 2 O 3.
